Apart from having more resources, a very good reason why you can get your own web server and use it instead of a shared web hosting plan is the fact that you'll be able to install and run a wide selection of software. With a shared account, you could use apps, which do not need root access and are not installed server-side, so when you need certain software for your Internet sites, you can't set it up on a shared web server. This isn't the case with a hosting server of your own where you can install whatever you would like.
